Syllabus
This syllabus contains crucial information that will help you plan your semester, stay on top of your workload, and get the most out of this course. The syllabus also functions a bit like a contract. I am going to assume that because you’ve been given the syllabus and had the chance to ask questions about it, that you have read it and understood it. On your end, the syllabus lets you know how I am accountable to you. I will keep to the posted dates and deadlines just like you will. If I need to make changes I will do my best to tell you in advance. There are more details about the specifics of office hours, keeping in touch and grading, below. Keeping in touch
Office Hours
My office hours are Thursdays 4-6pm in the lobby of Kalmanovitz Hall or by appointment. Feel free to drop in, but if your schedule is tight please do email me to arrange to speak at a specific time. If you cannot attend office hours during this time, please email me to arrange a mutually agreeable time.
Email correspondence
I will endeavor to respond to any email you send me within 48 hours, except on weekends. I generally do not work in the evenings after 6pm, or at the weekend, so for example, if you need a reply to a question before Monday then please get in touch no later than the previous Thursday. While you should feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the course or the topics we are covering, or (if you should be interested,) in graduate school and its application process, I will not engage in substantive discussion about the course material or exam prep over email. If you are confused about the reading or want to discuss a particular topic further, please ask in section, come to office hours, or schedule an appointment.
Life challenges
Please do speak to me this term if you are struggling personally or academically. Life challenges can have a big impact on your ability to engage with and be successful in your classes. If I am aware of any difficulties we can work together to help you be as successful as possible in this class. There is also a range of campus services that may be of help.
